Action Research 167

Action Research #167:

Anna Mikhailova / Rat Bastard duo

Anna Mikhailova (Rotterdam NL). Accomplished Russian composer, piano, organ and koto player, opera, film, and theater director, ethnomusicologist and multimedia artist. Her work is in bringing alive multiple and dimensional languages and generating the worlds via performance. And here we are, saxophones in voices when we scream.

Rat Bastard (Miami, FL) is a transgressive guitarist and producer
who was a founding member in numerous psych, noise music, and performance art rock bands. Laundry Room Squelchers currently tours worldwide and curates the International Noise Conference.

A rare live solo performance from Dave Lebleu of The Mercury Program & The Album Leaf in the vein of his 2005 album "Dirty South Still Life." Deft electronic productions & live performance.

Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel
(Atlanta, GA)
"The name of this Atlanta duo implies a proper classical recital, a rigid formality. But Scott Burland (theremin) and Frank Schultz (lap steel) don't do scripted, improvising not so much distinct sounds as evolving eddies of sound, vapors of tones that develop and transform gracefully. Hypnotic pulses and dreamy drones weave together to form a kaleidoscope of sounds and moods, ambient clouds and swooning collages that are as much about texture as they are timbre, like a long-lost soundtrack to a deep-sea documentary." --P.
