Action Research #202:
Ryosuke Kiyasu
(Tokyo, Japan)
(solo snare)
http://www.kiyasu.com
https://ryosukekiyasu.bandcamp.com/
"In 1995 he started his career as a drummer and experienced live performances in various bands. In 2003 he moved to Canada in North America in order to gain experience as a drummer and began to play solo with snare drums. Perform solo live mainly on the local jazz bar. Also, while living in Canada, he started hardcore band THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE and worked as a drummer.
"From 2004 after returning to Japan, he started grindcore band SETE STAR SEPT and free jazz band KIYASU ORCHESTRA, and has released numerous works and has performed various tours to countries around the world. From 2012, he is also working as a band of Keiji Haino, a drummer of" FUSHITSUSHA.
"As a solo snare drummer, the countries that have performed in the past span the United States, Canada, Indonesia, Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Mongolia."
Jill Burton
(solo voice & movement)
http://www.jillburton.net/
"Jill Burton (born 1952) is an American improviser, extended vocalist, dancer, performance artist and energy worker. Noted as one of the great foundation improvisors of America, she is also known for incorporating spiritual healing with improvised performance. Active in the American improv scene since the early 1970s, she has lived and worked all over the country, including a ten-year stint in the 1980s as part of the downtown East Village experimental arts community, and six years in Sitka, Alaska, where she worked with Tlingit storytellers providing musical accompaniment for their healing stories. Burton is unusual for a musician in that her work is ephemeral, in-the-moment, and therefore recordings of her work are rare. She has collaborated with many notable experimental musicians and dancers, including LaDonna Smith, Davey Williams, Jane Scarpantoni, Judy Dunaway, David First, Rain Worthington, Gino Robair, Jack Wright, and Scott Walton." -- Wikipedia

Fred Lonberg-Holm & Aaron Zarzutzki duo
(Chicago, IL)
(duo set from Chicago improvisors touring separately but meeting up in Gainesville)
http://
https://
"Chicago based cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm has played and studied music in a variety of situations from the Juilliard School to the gutter. A former student of Anthony Braxton, Morton Feldman, Bunita Marcus and Pauline Oliveros, his primary projects are his Valentine Trio and The Lightbox Orchestra. He is also a member of a number of ongoing collective projects (The Boxhead Ensemble, The Friction Brothers with Michaels Zerang and Colligan, The Flatlands Collective, Keefe Jackson's Fast Citizens) as well as participating in numerous one off "ad-hoc" or in frequently convening ensembles. He also currently plays in groups led by Joe McPhee (Survival Unit III), Peter Brotzmann (Chicago 10tet), and Ken Vandermark (Vandermark 5, Frame 4tet, Territory Ensemble). Improvisors he has worked with include Jim Baker, John Butcher, Wilbert DeJoode, Axel Doerner, Mats Gustafsson, Charlotte Hug, Glenn Kotche, Peter Kowald, Nicole Mitchell, Torsten Muller, Jim O'Rourke, Jeff Parker, David Stakenas, Ben Vida, and Michael Zerang. He has contributed cello sounds to numerous recording projects by rock groups including Califone, Freakwater, God Is My Co-Pilot, L'altra, Smog, Superchunk, US Maple, Wilco and many others." -- from http://
"Aaron Zarzutzki describes himself as "an improviser of various sorts." From his home base in Chicago, he investigates "misuse and perversion of objects and systems...virtuosity, volatility, futility, and capability are thought of."" -- from http://
