"In 1989, after completing his doctorate at Columbia University in New York, French-born American musician Wade Matthews moved to Madrid and became active on the international improv scene. Drawing on his work at the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center (His doctoral dissertation was on improvisation guided by electronic sounds) he approached the bass clarinet and alto flute as “acoustic synthesizers,” rethinking their sonic possibilities, phrasing, and relation to breath in a musical language based on real-time creation. When faster processors made laptop synthesis viable, Matthews gradually abandoned the woodwinds and returned to his first love, tweaking a virtual synthesizer to allow very rapid control of sound parameters for solo playing and dialog with others. In 2007, he founded INTERMEDIA 28 with photographer Adam Lubroth and guitarist Julio Camarena. Active in the American improv scene since the early 1970s, she has lived and worked all over the country, including a ten-year stint in the 1980s as part of the downtown East Village experimental arts community, and six years in Sitka, Alaska, where she worked with Tlingit storytellers providing musical accompaniment for their healing stories. Burton is unusual for a musician in that her work is ephemeral, in-the-moment, and therefore recordings of her work are rare. "In 1995 he started his career as a drummer and experienced live performances in various bands. In 2003 he moved to Canada in North America in order to gain experience as a drummer and began to play solo with snare drums. Perform solo live mainly on the local jazz bar. Also, while living in Canada, he started hardcore band THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE and worked as a drummer.

"From 2004 after returning to Japan, he started grindcore band SETE STAR SEPT and free jazz band KIYASU ORCHESTRA, and has released numerous works and has performed various tours to countries around the world. From 2012, he is also working as a band of Keiji Haino, a drummer of" FUSHITSUSHA.

"Extended vocalist/ composer/ holistic/ sound/ movement/ energy/ performance artist JILL BURTON was a professional ballerina, modern dancer, dance teacher/accompanist, and free improvisor in Gainesville FL during the 1970s. In 1978, she traveled to San Francisco where she met for the first time her life-long friends and collaborators Davey Williams and LaDonna Smith, and connected for the first time to a larger, world-wide community of free improvisors. She lived in Manhattan's East Village from 1981-1991 where she was very active as part of the downtown experimental music/dance/performance art scene; including co-founding, w/Rain Worthington, the band HIZOHI (which also included Jane Scarpantoni, Yuval Gabay, and Kumiko Kimoto). She has been privileged to work with and learn from artists from all over the world, including the Peking Opera, the Noh Theater, and Alaska Native Tlingit dancers and storytellers. She has studied and practiced hands-on healing and energy work for over twenty years, always incorporating this into her performance work. In other words, she is a "world-class, visionary badass". Current projects include Jill's INFERNO, an octet a capella operetta inspired by Dante."

"Golden Retriever is a pure noise-improv outfit from Oslo, Norway who plays hard-hitting noise with drums, guitar and electronics. "If, Bwana was born on New Year's Eve 1984, making music that has swung between fairly spontaneous studio constructions and more process-oriented composition. A recent review of Margolis's work says: "Let it be declared that Al Margolis/If, Bwana is some sort of evil genius working with raw materials which are never adapted to a genre or a context, because they create one in that very moment. Those sources are radically altered up to an utterly unrecognizable state, anarchic manifestations moving in compact determination." (Massimo Ricci, Touching Extremes).

Walter Wright:

"Walter Wright is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice includes computer programming, electro-acoustic music, and video performance. His focus is on "improvisation as a way of being present in the world."

"Walter was one of the first video animators. At Computer Image Corp he animated letters, words, and titles for Children’s Television Workshop. He was a video animator for Ed Emshwiller’s Thermogenesis and Scapemates, aired by WNET’s Artists Television Workshop. Scapemates was the first computer graphics video nominated for an Emmy Award (1971). He showed his work at the first computer art conference at the Kitchen (NYC, 1973). In 1973-76, as artist-in-residence at the Experimental Television Center, he pioneered video performance touring public access centers, colleges, and galleries with the Paik/Abe Video Synthesizer.

"Walter has developed software and hardware for artists including the Video Shredder, a desktop video processor for the TARGA2K. Currently he works with Max/MSP, softVNS, and Processing. His programs and sketches are available on his blog.

"Walter performs with several groups including Apocalypso, Ensemble indent, and Los Condenados. He uses a Bugbrand Board Weevil, a Flower Electronics Little Blue Boy, intact mics by Crank Sturgeon and sometime plays drums. He recently toured with an amplified drum kit and is experimenting Martin Freeman's Horndog and Peter Blasser's Shnth"
